3 simple questions regarding the use of server monitoring

Hi everyone,

for my bachelor thesis I'm working on a mobile frontend for a server monitoring system. If you're working with (or have worked with) a server monitoring system, I would really appreciate it if you could answer some questions for me :)

How (and how often) do you interact with the server monitoring system? (Push, email, app, web, console, ...)

During your interaction with the system, what works good for you and how could the interaction be improved?

How many people are using the server monitoring system? If more than one, how does communication work?

Feel free to answer only one question, interpret them in a way that seems more reasonable for you or simplify your answers. Anything helps, thanks for tanking the time :)

Cheers,
Mike

Dear Mike,

You have asked in the right place because Site24x7 is a monitoring service that empowers IT operations and DevOps with AI-Powered performance monitoring and cloud spend. Its broad capabilities help quickly troubleshoot problems with end-user experience, applications, servers, public clouds, and network infrastructure.

Let me answer the questions you have asked.

 >>>How (and how often) do you interact with the server monitoring system? (Push, email, app, web, console, ...)

We monitor servers by installing a light-weight agent in the server. The agent interacts with the server and collects all the metrics needed for monitoring. The agent then sends the collected metrics to Site24x7 secured servers. The whole process is repeated every 1 minute or 5 minutes as per the polling interval set by the customer. Whenever a threshold is breached we alert the customers via e-mail, sms, voice call and through integration system lick Slack, MSTeams, SDP Onmand and much more.

>>> During your interaction with the system, what works good for you and how could the interaction be improved?

Since our agent is sitting inside the server, it can execute the performance metrics securely. We make sure the agent does what it intended for. With the power of the agent based system we can leverage automatic remediation when a threshold in a server metric is breached. The automation can be running a script to take back up of the logs since a disk is becoming full to excessive logging. There are 100s of such use cases where the agent has been helpful is giving out the right information to act upon when an incident occurs.

>>>How many people are using the server monitoring system? If more than one, how does communication work?

I guess what you are trying to ask is how many servers are being monitored. We monitor 100,000+ servers and cater to thousands of customers worldwide.

Hope this helps and all the best of your thesis.
