Limit monitoring/alert by time of day

We currently monitor one website service.

Due to website function, service has an important reduction in performance every night, for communication factors. That is a controlled circumstance, and means no issues in the offered service (website is intended for daily, country labour time usage, and have no night accesses).

It means that actually we receive down service alerts almost every night. Alerts we do not need. But we do not want to increase threshold or timeout times because during day service we want it to be full checked.

The only place I have been able to find some sort of by time of day limitation seems to be related to SMS/Phone alerts for each user. But it does not affect email.

Thus, can we set up some way for the service to stop sending email alerts or monitoring during some time daily?

Hi,

We see that you have some queries around the alerting mechanism. Please note that we do have a time span limitation for the alerts configurable by the users. Please check the steps given below and let us know if this helps.

(Admin > User Management > Users > Edit User > Alert Settings > Alerting Period)

Cheers!

No, that's what I mentioned previously. As the help info confirms (and according to actual behaviour), that alerting period definition affects only SMS and phone. Email alerts are always sent.

Hi Sushma,

I would also like to add another use case along the same lines of limiting alerts to time of day. We are a consultancy company and manage the servers for our clients. For some of the servers we are paid to monitor and act upon the issues 24/7 while others (typically dev servers) are serviced only during the working hours. We do not want to receive any alerts for the latter group of the servers after the business hours, though these "suspended" alerts must still reach us at the start of the working day. I would love to have a feature in Site24x7 which would cover this use case. Some sort of alert suspension during a particular timeframe.

Thank you,

Alex

Hi,

Yes. We guess you got it right. You can only limit SMS and phone alerts using the alerting period option. We are internally discussing about the alerting period limitations to be introduced for email alerts also. We shall keep you posted on the same.

Meanwhile, as a workaround, to refrain from receiving email alerts during a specified time period, please go ahead and schedule daily maintenance period for the monitors. Please note that no polling will take place when a monitor is marked as maintenance.

Cheers,
Sushma.

I just ran across this issue today.  Alerting Period *should* control email as well as SMS and Phone.  Otherwise, what is the point of having an Alerting Period for a given employee?

I have a use case where we are using a third party helpdesk to wish to route emails during after hours instead of all the time since we are being charge extra.  Please look into the ability to allow communications to occur during hours set to include sms, email, voice or im.

Dear Alex,

We are working on sending alert only during specified hours. Will share an update once we release it.
