Web Client Auto Refresh

Hi,

I notice that Monitors, Status Page and Operations Dashboard pages do not auto refresh. Is this expected behavior?

I am running the client in the latest Chrome browser.

Regards,
Ole Petter

We noticed that too.  We spoke to them regarding this a while ago and they confirmed that the page doesn't auto-refresh which is pretty daft in my opinion.  We want to be able to put up monitoring screens in the office but that is counter-productive if the screen is showing out-of-date data.  They pointed us in the direction of a third party plugin for google chrome to refresh the page.

Hi Ole and Robert,

Since our last week's update, Home - Monitor view will get auto updated immediately on any status change, such as when a monitor goes down, trouble or up. Same applies for Web and Server tab monitor lists.

Operations Dashboard will refresh once in 5 minutes. Use the permalink of the Operations Dashboard which you can get by Admin - Share - Operations Dashboard - Click on dashboard name.

Status Pages do not auto refresh.

You can also configure Chrome/Firefox/Safari push notifications. You will be asked for permission once by browser, when you receive an alert.

Excellent! - I'll test it and feedback!   Hopefully that's one less pain point

Auto-refresh doesn't seem to be occurring on the Monitors page.  I like this page because it puts problem monitors at the top.

Hi Guest,

Status icon in the list view and status based count at the top will be updated. But the recent down monitor is not being pushed to top of the list, if that is what you expect. As of now, when the status count changes, you can filter based on that status by clicking corresponding count at the top.

We are working on an icon based view for showing all monitors' status in one view. This will be available by next week.

Hello Thillai,

Please clarify:
1. Shall we expect that the pages Home/Monitor and Home/Monitor Groups  will be automatically refreshed?
2. Will the recent trouble/down monitors will be moved to the top of the list automatically, without manual refresh of the page?

Hi Dmitry,

The direct answers to your questions are

1. Monitor status change will be immediately reflected on Home/Monitors. Not on Home/Monitor Groups.

2. Down monitors will not be moved to top. Down monitor count at the top will change. You can filter by clicking the count.

It is not a full refresh of the page/data on regular interval. Only when there is a change in status for any monitor, that change alone will be pushed to the client and reflected in the icon next to the monitor name and status count. The monitor row itself will not be moved to top.

When there is no change in the status for all monitors for a long time, nothing on the page will be changed. This behaviour is causing the doubt on refresh, I understand. We will change this behaviour to full data refresh on regular interval. I will update this post once the change went live.

Can this full data refresh be extended to the home/monitor groups page please?  It seems to be a popular page among the users so would make sense

Home - Monitors & Monitor Groups pages now support full page auto-refresh. Both these pages will be refreshed for every 5 minutes. You can see the last updated time next to the page title (images attached). If you want to do a manual refresh without waiting for next auto-refresh, click the reload icon next to the page title. This will have a significant advantage over using the browser’s reload button, as this will make only the API call needed whereas the browser’s reload button will fetch all the JS, CSS resources needed for the client.

We have also introduced a new NOC View which will show all the monitors in your account in a grid-like view in a single page (image attached). You can access this view by clicking the grid icon at the right in Home - Monitor Status page. In this view, each box will represent a monitor and will have the background color depending on the status of the monitor. This page will always be in “live” mode, means any status change will be immediately reflected on this page. You can also see a notification at the top of the page with the name and status of the monitor when there is a status change.

Depending on the number of monitors and the screen resolution, you will see just status colored boxes (or) boxes with monitor name (or) boxes with name and down reason. But you can always mouse over the box to see all the details in a tooltip and by clicking the box you can visit the monitor dashboard.
