Trap Settings

The Trap Settings page in Site24x7 lets you manage SNMP trap configurations for your network devices. By default, Site24x7 automatically associates all SNMP traps with every network monitor you’ve added. However, if you want more control over which devices should receive specific trap data, this page is where you can make those adjustments.

Why use the Trap Settings page?

While Site24x7 automatically associates all traps with your devices to simplify setup, there might be cases where:

  • You want to disable trap monitoring for specific devices.
  • You want to limit a particular trap to only a few critical devices.
  • You need to fine-tune your trap processing setup for performance or organizational reasons.

The Trap Settings page allows you to enable or disable trap monitoring selectively for each network device or even a device category (like routers using a specific device template).

Note
  • All newly added network devices are automatically selected for existing traps by default. You can override this behavior anytime from the Trap Settings page.
  • If you remove a device from the trap association, it won’t receive or process those traps in Site24x7.

Editing the Trap Settings

  1. Log in to your Site24x7 account.
  2. Navigate to Network > SNMP Traps.
  3. Click the Trap Settings tab.
  4. In the Settings field, select Trap Processor or On-Premise Poller. Selecting Trap Processor allows you to associate or disassociate a trap processor with a device, while selecting On-Premise Poller allows you to enable or disable trap processing for specific devices in a device category or even those devices sharing a common template.
    Note

If you select On-Premise Poller, the other fields may take a few minutes to reflect, depending on the number of devices and On-Premise Pollers configured in your account.

    • If you select Trap Processor in the Settings field, specify values for the following fields:
      1. Trap Processor: Select a trap processor that needs to be associated or disassociated with devices.
      2. Devices: The Selected Device(s) section on the right shows all devices currently associated with the selected trap processor. The Available Device(s) section on the left displays all the other devices that can be associated. Use the left (←) and right (→) arrow buttons between the two panes to add or remove devices from the trap processor association.
    • If you select On-Premise Poller in the Settings field, specify values for the following:
      1. Choose an On-Premise Poller: Select the required On-Premise Poller from the drop-down menu.
      2. Status: This shows whether the trap module is currently up or down for the selected On-Premise Poller. You can use this as a status indicator to check if trap processing is active. It also acts as a control switch—you can toggle between Enable and Disable to turn the trap module on or off for that poller.
      3. Port: Provide the value of the port in which the traps are received. Since it is usually 162, the default value is populated.
      4. In the Devices section, select values for the following fields:
        1. Category: Select a device category from the drop-down menu.
        2. Template: Select a device template from the drop-down menu.
        3. Devices: The Selected Device(s) section on the right shows all devices currently associated with the selected trap processor. The Available Device(s) section on the left displays all the other devices that can be associated. Use the left (←) and right (→) arrow buttons between the two panes to add or remove devices from the trap processor association.
          Note

Trap Settings configured at the device level take higher precedence over those at the processor level.

          • If you disassociate a device at the device level, trap processing will be completely shut down for that device, even if it’s still associated with a trap processor.
          • This ensures that administrators have strict control over trap handling for individual devices.

          Example:
If a device is assigned to a trap processor but is later disassociated at the device level via the On-Premise Poller settings, Site24x7 will treat that device as excluded from trap processing entirely.
