By monitoring a Nutanix host, you can:

Interpret Nutanix host performance metrics

Different tabs display different metrics, grouped by category.

  • Summary: Lists key CPU, memory, and storage stats along with host configuration and hardware summary details.
  • I/O Operation: Displays various I/O operations from the disk, hypervisor, and storage controller as graphs.
  • Bandwidth: Displays data transfer information as graphs from the disk, hypervisor, and storage controller.
  • Latency: Shows the read, write, and average latencies of the disk, hypervisor, and storage controller.
  • Content Cache: Shows the number of hits and lookups, and the different types of memory used.

Summary

Metrics Description
CPU Summary (GHz) Overview of CPU usage
Memory Summary (GiB) Overview of memory usage
Storage Summary (GiB) Overview of storage space
Nutanix Host Configuration Details like host name, host type, state, CPU model, block model, hypervisor name, hypervisor address, and the controller VM's IP address 
Hardware Summary Details like number of sockets, CPU cores, CPU thresholds, disks, and virtual machines
CPU Usage (%)  The percentage of the CPU capacity currently being used by the host
Memory Usage (%)  The percentage of memory capacity currently being used by the host 
Disk/Physical Usage (GiB and %) The amount of physical storage space used currently in the host 
Read IOPS (%)  Percent of I/O operations per second (IOPS) that are reads 
Write IOPS (%)  Percent of IOPS that are writes 
Content Cache Hit Rate (%)  Content cache hits over all lookups

I/O Read Operations from Hypervisor (count/sec) Input/output read operations per second from the hypervisor 
I/O Write Operations from Hypervisor (count/sec) Input/output write operations per second from the hypervisor 
I/O Operations from Disk (count/sec)  IOPS for the host from the disk 
I/O Read Operations from Disk (count/sec)  Input/output read operations per second from the disk 
I/O Write Operations from Disk (count/sec)  Input/output write operations per second from the disk 
I/O Operations from the Storage Controller (count/sec)  IOPS for the host from the storage controller

I/O Latency of Hypervisor (millisecs) The average time taken by the hypervisor to process I/O requests
I/O Read Latency of Hypervisor (millisecs) The average time taken by the hypervisor to process I/O read requests
I/O Write Latency of Hypervisor (millisecs) The average time taken by the hypervisor to process I/O write requests 
I/O Latency of Disk (millisecs)  The average time taken by the disk to process I/O requests 
I/O Latency of the Storage Controller (millisecs)  The average time taken by the storage controller to process I/O requests 
Read Latency of the Storage Controller (millisecs)  The average time taken by this storage controller to process I/O read requests 
Write Latency of the Storage Controller (millisecs)  The average time taken by this storage controller to process I/O write requests 

Content Cache

Metrics Description
Number of Hits on the Content Cache The number of times read requests were served from this cache
Number of Lookups on the Content Cache The number of times the cache was looked up for serving read requests
Logical Memory Used to Cache Data Without Deduplication (MiB) Logical memory used to cache data without deduplication
Physical Memory Used by the Content Cache to Cache Data (MiB)  Real memory used to cache data by the content cache 
Logical SSD Memory Used to Cache Data Without Deduplication (GiB)  Logical SSD memory used to cache data without deduplication 
Physical SSD Memory Used by the Content Cache to Cache Data (GiB)  The real SSD memory used to cache data 
Memory Saved from Content Cache Deduplication (GiB) Memory saved due to content cache deduplication
